scovl
/ˈskoʊvl/  ·  SKOH-vl
noun  ·  proper noun  ·  verb (informal)
1. A community of heat seekers united by the universal language of spice — tracking, rating, and celebrating every burn from mild curiosity to five-alarm obsession.
2. The act of documenting one's hot sauce experiences with intention and honesty. “I scovled every bottle at the farmers market.”
3. A trusted archive of fire — your personal heat history, preserved in SHU and honest ratings, shared with people who actually understand the burn.
Etymology: Derived from Scoville — the scale invented by pharmacist Wilbur Scoville in 1912 to measure capsaicin concentration in peppers. One Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) is the universal measure of all heat. We just made it social.

One Scale.
Every Burn.

Scoville Heat Units are the gold standard for measuring capsaicin — the compound responsible for every bead of sweat, every watering eye, every satisfying burn. From zero for a bell pepper to 3 million for the world's hottest peppers, every hot sauce tells a story in numbers.

Scovl is where those numbers — and the stories behind them — live.

All heat levels welcome.

Whether you’ve got two bottles or two hundred, you’re a chilihead here.

The short version.

Yes. The app is free, ad-free, and we don’t track you across the web. The core — logging burns, your shelf, following people, streaks — stays free, and we won’t take away anything you already have. Down the road there may be an optional Pro tier for power-user extras (think advanced stats, deeper analytics, that kind of thing), and early users get Founding Member perks as a thank-you for showing up first.
Not even a little. Scovl is built for anyone who eats hot sauce — from “I love the green bottle from my taco place” to “I have a shelf labeled by Scoville.” You log what you try, you read what others tried, you learn as you go. No quiz at the door.
Three things, mostly. We’re free and ad-free with no sponsored ratings — what the community says is what the community says. The vibe is warm, not gatekeepy: a casual foodie is just as welcome as a Pepper X chaser. And the app is designed to feel like a journal you’ll actually come back to, not a leaderboard you’re losing to.
A lot of folks are landing here from there. Sauce Boss shut down and left a bunch of us without a home. You can’t import your old data automatically (we never had access to it), but you can rebuild your shelf in Scovl quickly — and the catalog already has thousands of bottles, with a way to submit anything missing.
To log burns and follow other people, yes. Email + password or Sign in with Google/Apple, takes ~30 seconds. Want to browse first? Open in browser (the link is right above) and look around — no signup required to read.
